PRINCE OF DARKNESS ran three times at three years, winning once (Piebald Stakes) and being placed twice (Warwick Castle Stakes, Bloombury Stakes). He was then bought by Louis Meazrella, a man noted for his Louella Stud. He went on to gain two Super Premiums within the British Sports Horse Society in 1995/6.

He is by the classic winner SHADEED, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, (Group 1), The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1), The Craven Stakes (Group 2), Houghton Stakes (Group 3), and placed third in the Breeders’ Mile (Group 1). SHADEED is the sire of SAYYEDARI (G1 1000 guineas, G1 Cheveley Park Stakes, G1 Moyglare Soul Stakes, Champion at 2), SHADAYID (champion European 2 y.o. filly), ALYDEED (G1 Carter H Stakes), SPENDENS (G2 Gimerack Stakes), CITADEED (G2 Peter Pan Stakes), SATIN FLOWER (G3 Jersey Stakes), NADWAB (G3 Queen Mary Stakes, at 2), PRINCE OF DARKNESS's Dam INTENSIVE, who was unraced, is half sister to CANVASSER and has bred four winners, namely INTENSIVE COMMAND, winner of 3 races including Trenton 11 (G3) and placed in no less than seven other group races.

BESTOFBOTHWORLDS a winner of eight races and placed twice in group races, also a Dam of winners, SONG OF AFRICA a winner of six races and placed in a Group race, and CAJETANC, winner of three races. PRINCE OF DARKNESS also has an unnamed half sister born in 1997 by BROAD BRUSH who was sold through Keeneland Sales 1998 for $525,000.

PRINCE OF DARKNESS, known to his friends as POD, is a big, strong, upstanding middleweight horse with good looks, masses of presence and extravagant movement. It will be a long time since you last saw a thoroughbred stallion who looked like this. He has a lovely temperament and has very quickly established himself as a firm favourite. He is the ideal sire to cross with lighter framed thoroughbred mares to improve stature whilst retaining a ‘blue blooded’ pedigree.

On the stronger types of mares he continues to produce a true to type, middleweight combining size and quality. His offspring are already prolific winners in the show ring. EVE'S TEMPTATION won many County titles as a foal including winning the middleweight foal class at the Hunter Show 2002. In Eventing he has many representatives at all levels up to and including Advanced as well as Burghley Young Event Horse qualifiers.
