‘A front running stayer who broke the 2 mile record at Ascot when he ran away with the Queen’s Vase. He took the Doncaster and Jockey Club Cups in which he beat Sapience and Sergeyevich in the same season – no mean feat for a three year old. WELD is by KALAGLOW sire of the Melbourne Cup winner JEYNE and high class 10f filly TIMARIDA, from the Archers Hall staying family of LIGHTER, BALLINGER (both successful N.H. sires) BUOY and SEA ANCHOR. He won a group or listed race every month for three months as a three year old.

WELD’s four year olds are averaging over 14’000 gns in the sale ring and from limited opportunities he is already a successful sire in Britain and Ireland including: ALMWCH (4 wins), DO IT ON DANI (3 wins), RED BROOK (3 wins), WELSH SILK (3 wins) and LOUGHBEG RAMBLER (2 wins). His other winners include BUS, MYSIE and ROBBIE JNR. as well as multiple winners between the flags: HALF EACH (3 wins), HARWELD (4wins), WILD ERIC (3 wins) and other point-to-point winners INCY WINCY SPIDER, MANDARIN STAR, OWEN WELD and MASTER WELDER.
His only representative to go eventing is the classy mare STRAMASH now advanced. STRAMASH started her career in March 1998 and in May 2000 she ran her first CCI at Punchestown. STRAMASH is owned, produced and ridden by Mr David Gatherer.

WELD is an imposing elegant horse his last season in England he had over 90% fertility, covering 60 mares.
WELD is siring big quality young horses with good sound conformation and most inherit his amazing front and head. He is now, for the first time, being offered to the sport horse market.

We firmly believe that when breeding part T.B. horses it is imperative that a Thoroughbred stallion should have proved soundness and ability to take the pressure of work, stay sound and win. The days when any T.B. stallion, if it was big enough, impressive enough and got big good looking stock, are gone.

The market place wants potential sport horses that are by stallions that have proven their temperament by winning races and staying sound in doing so, have demonstrated that they are able to take work, stay focused and not allow their naturally excitable temperament to get in the way.

WELD will be an outstanding sport horse sire. As well as sire of National Hunt horses, WELD has proven that he had top class ability as a race horse. His offspring need time. They are big, quality individuals – the sort that are hard to find.
