Langaller Farm Open Day – 20th July 2024 at 2:00pm

Plans are well underway now for the open day on July 20th, fingers crossed for a dry and sunny afternoon, but this is July in England!

Initially the open day was to showcase what we have at Langaller Farm and what we produce from our mares and stallions. That hasn’t changed and from it has inception some 25+ years ago, with the move from dairy farming into full time equestrian was a daunting step and it has been very much a challenge. But, we have made it thus far.

However, my mind set has changed slightly after a self-inflicted reality check and a huge dose of honesty to myself. The scale of the workload is taking its toll, I had a major health scare a few years ago, and although I am fit and well, I don’t have the energy and drive that I used to have. We have run 3 different aspects within one business, with the showing, breeding and stud work. Reluctantly I have to accept that I can’t do as much as I used to be able to, neither is it fair to expect those around me to do anymore and so I am going to downside dramatically and concentrate on what I enjoy most and what took me down the equine route in the first place, namely the stud work.

My passion is working with the stallions, I love their characters and their attitudes and confidence, and when you work with them there becomes an incredible bond and I love that. Over the years now I have stood some exceptionally talented stallions across all disciplines  The lovely Kuwait Beach who was the top sire of Eventers at the time, Catherston Dazzler and Catherston Liberator who between them were so influential as competition sires, the TB Weld, a record winner at Royal Ascot and sire of so many top race stock, Matinee du Madon, himself an Advanced Eventer before my own home bred stallions Langaller Starring Role and Langaller Star Maker, and now the young Thoroughbred Langaller King’s Manna. So, the mares, foals and older youngstock will be available to buy, they will be very competitively priced as I want their new owners to have the opportunity to own a quality horse that will bring much enjoyment without breaking the bank.

Come and have a wander around and see what takes your eye. There will be something for everyone and to suit all budgets.

There is a charge on the day of £10 per person but it would be wrong to come to Devon without a cream tea and that is included in the entry fee, with thanks to Polly Anna catering {Phillippa Whitley} and there will also be a Proseco and Pimms bar, and any profit will go to the Farm Community Network charity.

There will also be the chance to speak to our stud vet, representatives of area 16 Side Saddle association and of course the team here. It would be very useful to know a rough idea of numbers before I roll up my sleeves and start baking scones and cakes!!

Please either comment or drop me a DM so that I can feed up the house cow for the clotted cream. If you are coming up from Cornwall we will make allowances for your bizarre cream/jam preference.

We look forward to welcoming you all to Langaller Farm.
