Newtown Pedro – 2004

For the enthusiasts of the native breeds and in particular the Connemara Newtown Pedro must be one stallion to set your hearts racing! Coming to the United Kingdom from his native Ireland, Pedro has very quickly caught the eye of many mare owners wishing to find a traditional, true to type pony stallion with the pedigree to match. Pedro arrived in Devon part way through the 2011 season and won and was Champion of his breed at Royal Cornwall Show and was pulled forward in the final 6 for the H.O.Y.S. Cuddy In-Hand qualifier.

He went on to win both under saddle and In-Hand throughout the summer including winning at the National Pony Society Summer Championship show where he also stood Reserve Breed Champion. In 2012 he was Champion Connemara at Devon County and Reserve M and M Champion. His outstanding conformation is matched by his pedigree which contains some very influential bloodlines. His sire is the very well respected Fredriksminde Hazy Match who has sired so many top ponies within the Connemara breed including a number of graded stallions. Hazy Match is by Hazy Dawn who in turn is out of the Abbeylix Owen mare Castle Park. Newtown Pedro’s dam Cloonisle Heather is by Cloonisle Cashel who again is by Abbeylix Owen giving Pedro a double cross of this outstanding sire on both sides of his pedigree.

Newtown Pedro is very fertile and all bar one of his mares conceived on just one covering resulting in a 95% fertility rate. The Connemara breed is well known for its tough, workmanlike physique combining both power and substance whilst producing stamina and jumping ability in equal measure which makes this breed stand alone as both a family pony in its purest form and yet when coupled with the Thoroughbred makes for a truly outstanding competition horse competing at the very highest levels in Eventing, jumping and in many hunting countries. Newtown Pedro has an amazing temperament, happily combining both his ridden and stud duties simultaneously. He is stabled and exercised along side mares and geldings and is regularly hunted from Langaller Farm. He is now fully graded with Sport Horse Breeding GB making him one of just 2 pure-bred Connemara’s to have attained this status.

His part-bred offspring are now competing at BSJA and BE up to and including Intermediate level Does all this sound too good to be true? Well it very nearly is but in Newtown Pedro you have it all.
